ERIC

So, I found it interesting to hear about all the different things that have been happening in the schools. I am a little disappointed though, I personally do not want the schools, children, everyone to be so hooked up in today's world. I do not think that being so involved with EVERYTHING is the best idea. It seems like it is making our children's lives more stressful at an earlier age.
I thought back to how we talked about how annoying we find it when we can't find someone right away, we assume that if you have a cell phone, you MUST answer it. I miss the days of leaving messages and getting in touch with people in person. It is funny, children today have no idea how much fun it is to play jump rope with the long kitchen phone cord, while Mom is on a long distance phone. I guess I just miss the slower days of no cell phones, i-pods, portable game systems, I prefer the simpler days, I feel they were less stressful. I mean, we made it through the 80's and a lot of the 90's with out.
I understand that this the direction that things are going in and there is no stopping it. I guess the days were enjoyment of the slower things in life are gone and it is our job as educators to help everyone, including each other, to keep up.

I agree that our days are more stressful now than in the past. On the other hand, i feel that children should be involved in everything going on in the world especially technology wise. Most jobs these days if not all require some type of technology in order to get the job done. If children do not start learning about computers and other basic technology at a young age they will be lost in the real world. Since it is easier for children to catch onto things i feel that they should start learning and using technology as early as possible. This will help them to expand their knowledge on technology and how it can be used now and in the future. Now that our world is moving at such a fast pace people would be lost if they did not learn how to work and use technology! I think technology is a great thing and can make life easier for students, parents, and teachers if used and taught correctly.

I really enjoyed reading your ERIC reflection and it is very interesting to look at how busy out world has really become. I guess I never really thought about the stress that comes along with using technology at an earlier age, but I think the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. I miss the simpler days too, and I think that kids are growing up way too fast, but like you said, there really is no stopping it. I guess we just have to do our best as teachers to prepare our students for living in a busy world and help them to become successful individuals. Great reflection!

I remember those days and I sometimes wish I could rewind time and pause it when I was 7 years old. Things were much more different and it was nice to have the slumber parties and to have no distractions. Now kids at 7 years old have cell phones and it is hard to get their attention. I believe that the technology has gotten out of control for the younger generation, but I still like having the technology now. It is a back and forth struggle because I'm not sure which side I believe more in. I love those long boring days of having hardly no communication, but I also like having a way to keep in contact with family and friends while I'm in school.
